Cabinet Approves 892 Homes in Gahanga, a $48m Project With Rehousing for Residents

The Cabinet approved a housing development agreement between the City of Kigali and Bauhaus International Ltd on 4 March 2026, clearing the way for 892 housing units in Gahanga Sector, Kicukiro District. The project is valued at $48 million and will be built on 12.8 hectares.

The details

  • Residents. The development affects 121 landowners, who will be compensated either with a home in the new development or in money, depending on consultations run by the City of Kigali.
  • Deposits. The developer must deposit 30% of the compensation, plus three months' rent for households relocated temporarily, and the remaining 70% within 120 days.
  • Timing. Site work is due to start within a month of the construction permit, and the project is to be finished within 24 months of it.
  • The developer. Bauhaus International is a Nigerian real estate company. It signed a memorandum of understanding with the Rwanda Housing Authority on affordable housing in September 2023.
